A bright birthday without a character theme
A blue, red and yellow confetti party works when the birthday child wants a celebration without choosing a character or story. For eight guests, combine a music game, drawing clues and a pattern activity. Keep the colour in paper bands and a few reusable decorations rather than loose confetti on the floor.
A little structure, with room to adapt.
Give the music game a clear finish before sitting down to draw. The pattern activity can stay available for early arrivals or children who want a break. Use short rounds and offer a seated version of every music cue.

How to run the activities
1. Freeze in a colour shape
Gather: Music and three large cards: red circle, blue square and yellow triangle.
- When the music pauses, hold up one card. Guests make a loose shape with their arms or hands; everyone’s version counts.
- Start the music again without eliminating anyone. Guests can sway, walk or stay seated while it plays.
- Let volunteers choose the next colour card. Keep the volume comfortable and use a spoken cue instead of music if preferred.
2. Draw the party clue
Gather: Large paper and broad markers; prompt slips reading balloon, cake, hat, present, candle and music.
- A volunteer chooses a slip and draws clues while a partner guesses. An adult can quietly read the word.
- After a minute, offer a spoken hint or show the answer. Swap drawer and guesser without keeping scores.
- Pairs can invent another ordinary party object. Nobody is judged on how realistic the drawing looks.
3. Colour pattern lab
Gather: Large red, blue and yellow paper squares, six of each per pair.
- Make a repeating red-blue-yellow row and ask pairs to continue it for another six squares.
- Try a different rule such as two reds then one yellow. Ask what would come next before placing it.
- Pairs invent a pattern for their neighbour to finish. Use the chosen pattern as inspiration for a paper notebook band.
Before the doorbell rings
- Cut large colour cards and pattern squares.
- Prepare six easy drawing prompts.
- Test the speaker and set a comfortable volume.
- Cut notebook bands long enough to overlap at the back.
Keep the cake achievable
Add edible sprinkles to a plain iced cake, or ask a supermarket bakery for red, blue and yellow piping. Paper confetti and craft glitter stay off the food.
If plans change
Replace music with spoken colour cues if noise is an issue. If drawing feels difficult, describe the object in three clues instead.
A little something to take home
Confetti Doodle Notebook and Pencil
For eight guests: Eight A6 notebooks, eight red, blue or yellow pencils, paper for cover bands and folded doodle cards, and tape.
- Cut paper bands long enough to wrap around each notebook with a small overlap. Decorate with red, blue and yellow marks.
- Draw a half-finished confetti scene on a small folded card and tuck it inside the front cover for guests to complete.
- Secure each band at the back and tuck one pencil underneath. Keep the label small so the notebook still feels usable.
